B I O G R A P H Y

Noel P.E.M. Schellekens aka DUBPHIXS born in Vosselaar (TURNHOUT), province of Antwerp in Belgium, on 19 Octobre 1975. As third child of the family, son of a printer, Lowie my older brother bought my first bass, to assist his guitar. I started playing music since 1994 when I was 19 before that only skateboarding was on my mind. Followed Music Academy (1 year) and 2 years of private lessons with Peter Maene (Sticks and Stones) for the rest I am AUTODIDACT. Where I always wanted to learn to play SOLO' s on my bass, which resulted in harmony, and scales. Noel: bass player, all round musician and interested in modern sounds and making everything original… Since 1996 I have been playin’ live concerts in Europe (Belgium, The Netherlands). My first band was named “Dread Invasion” and existed 4 years, we started out as 4 friends from school and played covers (The Heathen, Crazy baldheads, Jammin’, Them belly full(Bob Marley and the Wailers), Don’t look back(Peter Tosh), Plastic Smile-Guess who is commin’ to dinner(Black Uhuru), Dangerous Minds(Coolio, Assasinator /Eek-A-Mouse. And we started to make our own compositions… with the inspiration of Jah Rasta far i. When we met Yosa Verheyen (DUBTALES , ROOTS TRAIN ROCKERS, DRUMMER WITH ROHAN LEE) we started recording a demo and bought from him our first recording device a TASCAM 8 track with tapes together with an ATARI with cubase. And hooked it up with the Rhodes keyboards and some drum computers (YAMAHA) from my brother Lowie alias Kartoesj. Since then I met a lot of musicians the one more famous then the other, from different corners of the globe: Rohan Lee(JAM), Timmy Mbonu(NIG-FelaKuti), Calvin Ward (Liberia) Calabas (Eric Judah), The Mighty Pirates, Paul 'sax'(IRISH SAXEFONE PLAYER), Musa (perc. Senegal), The Dillbrothers and Coco Junior. Soon after our first band split I started playin’ with Senghor Birham a Gambian and met Sillah Isagha also a Gambian singer song writer with who I composed for 3 years non-stop and rehearsed a lot and we did nice concerts (Afrikando, Pennezakrock, Candela Festival, … We were a multi cultarulegroup existing of 10-12 people with not less then 7 different cultures or nationalities in one. I learned a lot and got to know more and more about the functions of each instrument. Since 1998 I have been recording our own music, nowadays I still use CUBASE but then the SX version, this is a creation and production system, which offers all I need to record, compose, mix EFX, ...

In our music you will hear lots of different styles of drums or beats nowadays called, ROCKERS, ONE DROP, RIDDEMSTYLE, ROOTS, SLOW ROCK, RAGGA, MANY DIFFERENT SOUNDS, equalized and mixed with efx again.
